Dr. Arun Kumar S Haripad (born 30 May 1980), popularly known by his pen name Ezhuthalan, is an Indian poet, author, lyricist, educator and social activist from Kerala. He is known for his contributions to both Malayalam and English literature, particularly poetry dealing with social consciousness, human values, cultural identity and contemporary issues.

Apart from his literary activities, he serves as an English teacher in the Vocational Higher Secondary Department under the Government of Kerala and has been associated with several literary, educational and cultural organisations.

Early life and education

Dr. Arun Kumar S was born on 30 May 1980 in Haripad, situated in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. He was raised in a family that encouraged academic excellence and literary interests.

His father, V. N. Sivasankara Pillai, and mother, Dr. L. Jayasree, played a significant role in nurturing his interest in literature and education.

He completed his Master's degree in English literature and later earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Teacher Education Centre, Kayamkulam. He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in English and also completed a Bachelor of Laws degree from Annamalai University.

Career

Literature

Dr. Arun Kumar S Haripad began writing poetry during his early years and emerged as a notable voice in contemporary Malayalam literature. His writings frequently address social issues, ethics, spirituality, humanity and cultural values.

His debut poetry collection Sudarshanam received appreciation among literary circles. He later published Novu, which was released by Kerala Education Minister V. Sivankutty.

His English poetry collection Truth, Goodness and Beauty Behind Love was released by Agriculture Minister P. Prasad.
